Why is called Pipa?

     The most trusted theory is that this name had origin when the Portugueses had arrived here and saw a rock that seemed a Barrel, so "Pipa" in the traditional Portuguese of Portugal means barrel, that's why it's called Pipa. 
     The firsts foreigners who had arrived at Pipa's Beach was the ones who just wanted to enjoy the summer, the sun, swimming on the ocean or walking in the sand on the seashore so they used to come in January. They left Goianinha about 4 or 5 a.m to arrive in Pipa about 10 or 11 a.m. Old women traveled on ox car, young women and the youngsters came by horse, of cells, the employees came mounted in the way them loads of the luggage. 
     The development of Pipa's Beach its very recent, however, very fast. In the last decades, it has being knowing in the world-wide, for its people, its beautiful beaches, with limpid and warm waters and the coves, as the Enseada (Cove) dos Golfinhos (Dolphins), a natural sanctuary of these exotic mammals. They search in the coves of the old Canto's Beach their food and, of course, practise jugglings in air, with an impressive and perfect moviments.
     Beyond the beauty of its beaches, like Praia dos Amor, Praia dos Afogados, Praia do Moleque, Pedra do Moleque, Chapadão, Praia da Cancela, Pipa also has preserved Mata Atlântica , first by our ancestor and, since 1917, by Antonio Maria José; the Ecological Sanctuary, where you can see one of the most beautiful views of the Baía dos Golfinhos (Bay of the Dolphins) and the point of the Pipa's Beach.
     There is a very important patrimony in Pipa, not much explored yet but great in beauty and in value - THE NATIVE'S MEMORY less knowing than the natural beauty. One does not deduct the beauty from the other but while the natural beauty its exposed by itself , the creation , the imagination or even History of the people is remaining in the memory of the ancestors, need an urgent spreading and defense of the vestiges that they still brings in their brain, that particular moment that lives inside each inhabitant, of the Pipa's culture, where it will be at the section "Culture" in this site.
     One event that isn't very remembered, detailed below with proper words of a person who was there.
     The fall of an airplane in Pipa: "It was 1928, march 11th , a day with a very strong rain with strong wind. We heard a different noise, it was an airplane that had a problem and fell down in the beach. We were at the old Church and we heard and had a perfectly view of the airplane and the people digging the sand, to take off the passengers. They were three men. We saw the helix broking, that the airplane dragged from above of the high one. The airplane crash the peak of the front in the sand of the beach. All the passengers were well. Later, a mechanic came and had dismantled the airplane that was directed to Natal by boats. The Passengers passed a few days, enjoyed, had fun themselves and later they go to Goianinha to catch a train."

     This is Pipa: everything is excellent there - someplace that no one can explain, that only nature can create and we hope only nature can ended. Take care of Pipa, after all, Pipa is OURS!
